The AFCC-Ontario Parenting Plan Guide has been in use for more than 5 years and is now a foundational document for family justice professionals, self-represented parents and the courts. The AFCC-O is undertaking a Consultation on 2026 Revision, before its final release. 

The 2026 version of the Guide is not a major rethinking but rather is a “fine tuning.” The revision addresses some issues not considered in the original Guide, such as parenting schedules when one or both parents do not work a standard 40-hour 5 day week and expands on some issues to reflect developments in social science knowledge, such as more research on the use of mobile phones and social media, and step-up parenting plans. It also expands on the discussion of issues that are receiving increased attention in the courts, such as considering the effects of coercive control. However, the basic themes and structure remain the same as in the 2021 version.
